Gangmaster who raped journalism student

in Calais may have fled to Britain

A gangmaster believed to have raped a journalism student in

a squalid Calais migrants' camp could be on the loose in Britain.

Police say they think the people smuggler has already left the area

and may have fled to the UK to avoid detection.

As horrific details emerged of the 31-year-old student's ordeal,

detectives issued a photo e-fit provided by the victim to all UK

ports, as well as British and European police.

The student - who cannot be named for legal reasons - had

travelled to the French port to interview migrants sleeping

rough before trying to sneak into Britain.

As she took photographs of a group of Afghan refugees, she was

lured into a makeshift hut in the notorious unofficial camp called

The Jungle by the gang leader, who told her he wanted to show

her something inside.

There he held her down, repeatedly hit her around the face and

body, and subjected her to a half-hour rape, police said. Although

she screamed for help, no one came to her aid.

these kids are these days. [Our daughter] has more manners,” Jones

Tensions escalate at

anti-illegal immigrant

rally in Shenandoah

State police stood between anti-illegal immigration demonstrators in
Shenandoah and women carrying a Mexican flag as the groups argued
Saturday.


Tension escalated after Crystal A. Dillman, the fiancee of an illegal
Mexican immigrant slain the borough in July, and the women
walked into the rally carrying a Mexican flag.

The two sides argued, troopers standing between them until the
women left.

The demonstration was one of two staged by groups gathered a few
blocks apart Saturday night. Organizers of both groups said they
trying to bring Shenandoah together.


While one gathering centered on ending illegal immigration, the
other celebrated diversity.


Both were organized in the aftermath of the death of Luis E. Ramirez.


Three teenagers have been charged with fatally beating Ramirez
on July 12. The Schuylkill County case has drawn attention
nationwide after prosecutors and witnesses said the beating was
racially motivated and because Ramirez was in the country illegally.


Dan Smeriglio called for a "pro-America, pro-immigration and
pro-immigration enforcement rally" at Shenandoah's Babe Ruth
Field.


Last year, he founded Voice of the People, a group based in Hazleton,
Luzerne County, that opposes illegal immigration.


Discussion about the Ramirez case has been too one-sided, Smeriglio
said.

Groups come from around the country to stage events there and to
put their message across, he said before the rally began.


"I don't think it's right," he said. "It's opportunistic and very wrong
and I think it's very vain of them to use this one tragedy as their token
flag to wave because of this fight in this country about illegal
immigration. We're confronting that. We're here peacefully."


He asked a few speakers to talk about illegal immigration and show the
people of Shenandoah they live in a great place. The speakers asked
the crowd to sign up for a volunteer crime watch and join a political
action group.

The rally wasn't called to support the teens involved in Ramirez's
death, Smeriglio said.

"The crime was unfortunate, unnecessary and wrong, and obviously,
we're against that," he said.

State police from five barracks watched the rally sites, and a state
police helicopter flew over Smeriglio's rally, which attracted about
200 people.

No arrests were made, Cpl. George E. Peach said.

Across town, the pastors at Kahillat Israel Non-Denominational Christian
Church and two borough residents organized a unity event. About 80
people gathered at the church to pray, sing, eat and sign a "Shenandoah
United We Stand" banner.

"This is to celebrate the different cultures and backgrounds and to truly
celebrate that," resident LouAnn Pleva said. ( * And they wonder
why church attendance is declining fast in the White
community. Nobody wants to hear you preach the state

Cumberland County, said he traveled to Shenandoah to do something
positive about his frustration with the anti-illegal immigration movement.


"I've been reading my e-mail about ICE (Immigration and Customs
Enforcement) raids and hate crimes against Hispanics all across the
country," said Smith, a Spanish-language professor at Dickinson College.
"And this is in my backyard." ( Well "Professor" ,maybe your

Two Clarksville gang rapes in one week

At the Clarksville Police Department, detectives have two suspects

in the first rape, but not the second rape that happened this past

weekend.

Detectives say they don't believe the two incidents are connected.

The first victim who agreed to be on camera said she's left with

physical and emotional scars Police say they know who the two

men are, but cannot arrest them yet because they're waiting for

a warrant from a judge.

Forty seven-year-old Terry Burton, of New Albany, says two

weekends ago, she was at Jersey's Cafe in Clarksville, when a man

who knew her nephew asked for a ride home. Burton says she now

regrets driving him to his apartment on Greentree Boulevard and

using his bathroom. When she came out, two men were waiting in

the dark.

"They dragged me and they throw me on the couch. And one of them

was up there on top of me, and the other one was down there. While

the other one was in me, the other one was trying to force himself the

other way on me," said Burton.

Burton says the men told her they were raping her because her nephew

owed them money.

Then this past weekend, a 24-year-old Clarksville woman says she left

America's Best Sports Bar and Grill and went home with strangers.

The second victim says the two men brought her to an apartment

complex on Cambridge Boulevard, gave her two mixed drinks, then

raped her. But she says she can't remember which apartment unit they

took her to and really too many details about what they look like.

"My concern is, people have to use a little bit of common sense. I

mean, you don't go out to a bar and end up going home or going to

somebody's apartment, even out to a parking lot with guys that

you don't even know," said Detective Major Ed McCutcheon.

The detective says Burton's attackers are illegal Mexican

immigrants.

"I'm afraid, next time, if they do go for somebody else, the other

person might not be so lucky," said Burton.

Detective McCutcheon says reporting the illegal immigrants to

Immigration & Customs would be useless because they've already

got too many people to deport.

Meanwhile, police are waiting for labs to finish testing crucial evidence

in the two rapes.

A Martinez womanwho used another person's identity to

get a $20,000 breast lift and tummy tuck in Greenbrae was

sentenced Wednesday to nine months in the Marin County Jail.

She nearly got away with it, but a get-well bouquet and a

navel itch were her undoing.

Londie Bowman, 32, will surrender at the jail in October, said

her lawyer, deputy public defender Eva Bennett.

Bowman could have been sentenced to as much as four years

in prison after pleading guilty last month to three counts of

identity theft. Prosecutors dismissed charges of commercial

burglary, possession of a forged instrument and receiving

stolen property.

This is just wrong, sending her to jail. Did she really harm anyone?

All she wanted was a better life. And she will be separated from her

family. That is simply just cruel. Where is the sympathy for her

plight? I think we should start a petition drive, and perhaps have

a march. Who is there to protect her rights?

Dumb argument, right? But, those are the arguments used by those

who support illegal aliens, or, as they like to call them, undocumented

immigrants. People whose first action is to break federal law. Many

of them are busted using stolen identities, which can do lasting harm

to an Americans life. Many of them kill, rape, kidnap, rob, and do

physical harm to Americans. Is anyone going to be upset about a

woman being separated from her family for starving her horses or

for sexually assaulting a child? Well, a liberal might, but, then, we

know their view on crime includes the phrase "coddle the criminal."

When 600 were detained in Laurel, Miss, the usual suspects gave

their usual bleeding heart responses. Quite frankly, I do no care if

illegals are living in a climate of fear. Good. They should. They have

broken at least one federal law, and many of them are break many

more laws, from minor to major. I have no sympathy what-so-ever

for an illegal alien who was busted for carjacking and raping a

woman in June.

I have no sympathy for illegals who will not be able to rent a place to

live. I have no sympathy for single mothers who are illegal aliens and

might be separated from their children. Hint to the illegals: you can

take the anchor babies with you. And, again, I could care less if they

live in fear. If you are breaking the law, you should live in fear.

Do we need to fix the immigration system? You betcha. It is broken. It

is too easy for people to come illegally, it is too easy for visitors to overstay

their visa - sometimes for years and decades - and it is too difficult, and

expensive, for people to come legally, some for a long visit, some because

they want to be citizens. Coupled with continued increase enforcement,

and, in particular, targeting those who hire illegals. More focus has been

placed on the employers, and, illegals are often leaving because there

are no jobs.
